Active preparations are underway for the Third UN International Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
There are currently 32 landlocked countries in the world. This geographical condition presents serious challenges for these countries in vital areas such as international trade, transport and logistics capacity, economic development, and market access. Lacking seaports, they are dependent on the logistics infrastructure, trade policies, and border regulations of transit countries.
To address these pressing issues, an Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations has been signed to host the Third Global Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The forum is scheduled to take place from August 4 to 8, 2025, in the “Awaza” National Tourist Zone. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure the event is held at a high organizational level.
The main objective of the conference is to promote the effective integration of landlocked developing countries into the global economic system, enhance their trade relations, expand transport and logistics capabilities, improve access to information and communication technologies, and coordinate efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The conference is expected to gather high-level participation, including the UN Secretary-General, his deputies, relevant UN agencies, high-ranking delegations from 32 countries, heads of states and governments, leaders of regional and international organizations, representatives of financial and development institutions, legislative bodies, civil society organizations, and business communities. This reflects the large scale and importance of the event at the international level.
The agenda of the conference will include political and diplomatic negotiations, signing of cooperation agreements, expert roundtable discussions, as well as economic and cultural events.
