The Department of Pharmacy founded in 1983 and has been a part of the Faculty of Pharmacy since that. Department is considered a graduate department for students studying in the specialty "Pharmacy" at the university.

The first head of the department was Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor E. Sahatov. Then the department was headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences R.Baysahedov, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, "Honorary Elder of Turkmenistan", Professor M.Garryyev, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor A.Onov. Since 2000, the department has been headed by Candidate of Chemical Sciences, senior lecturer I.Gurbanov.

In accordance with the curriculum of the specialty "Pharmacy", the department conducts practical, experimental classes and lectures on 12 subjects. Students are provided with textbooks and manuals in all disciplines. The curriculum and educational programs are regularly improved and modernized.

The classrooms of the department are fully equipped with the latest pharmaceutical and medical equipment, modern technical means and teaching methods. All this helps students in many ways to master knowledge at a high level, get a decent education and become qualified specialists.

Under the guidance of the Department, students of the Faculty of Pharmacy undergo educational and industrial practice in pharmacies, pharmaceutical enterprises, the Botanical Garden, nature reserves belonging to the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan. The department also conducts advanced training courses for pharmacists.

In order to consolidate the theoretical knowledge of students in practice, most of the training sessions are held in central pharmacies located in Ashgabat, at the pharmaceutical enterprises as "Saglyk", "Tenekyar" and the "Ajanta Pharma LTD". This helps students in many ways to get acquainted with future jobs, modern pharmaceutical equipment, tools, innovations in pharmaceutical science and practice of the world and eventually become perfect qualified specialists.

With the participation of all teachers of the department, on the basis of the multivolume scientific and encyclopedic work of the Hero-Arkadag "Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan", scientific research is being conducted on the scientific justification of natural resources, including medicinal plants of the country, the development of technologies for obtaining new forms of medicines, improving methods of analyzing medicines. They make reports on the results obtained at regularly held scientific and practical conferences of various levels. They are published in scientific journals published in the country and abroad.

The teachers of the department conduct mentoring work with students, actively participate in social and cultural events and celebrations held on the occasion of national holidays on the territory of the university and the city of Ashgabat. In their free time, teachers and students take care of trees and other plantings as part of the country's environmental policy.
