The Propaedeutics of Children’s Diseases Department was established in 1982, its training base is Educational and Scientific Center for Maternal and Child’s Health Protection of Myrat Garryyev Turkmen State Medical University. Practical and lecture classes are conducted by teachers of the department in three subjects: “Practical Pediatrician Skills”, “Clinical Physiology of Newborns”, Propaedeutics of Children Diseases”.

The subject “Practical Pediatristic Skills” includes the study of methods of care for healthy and sick children, developing various skills and methods of use of medicines, first aid in urgent severe situations that are often in babies.

“Clinical Physiology of Newborns” – here students study peculiarities of organizing the work of the department of physiology and pathology, anesthesiology and resuscitation of newborns; morphinefunctional peculiarities of organs and systems of full-term and premature infants; conduct of primary processing of newborns in maternity homes and care of them; conducting and value of preventive vaccinations. Practical classes are held in maternity hospitals, physiology and pathology departments and reneamatology of newborns.

In the course of study “Propaedeutics of children diseases” students get acquainted with the peculiarities of medical deontology, ethics, aesthetics, methods of studies of healthy and sick children; anatomical and physiological peculiarities of various organs and systems in children; symptoms of various diseases and principles of feeding healthy children.

Students master the materials proposed by the World Health Organization , as well as national programmes of Turkmenistan, which are included in the educational plan of the university: “Integrated management of childrens’ diseases ”, “Protection and support of mother’s milk”, “Safe maternity”, “Early child development”.

The department has published textbooks “Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge” and “Propaedeutics of Children Diseases” in the state language. Methodological manuals, collections of situational tasks and test control are developed for all subjects. Lecture material is presented in the form of albums, presentations and electronic form for the university library.

 

Research work of the department is carried out in following directions: study of the peculiarities of endoscopic data of the upper sections of the digestive organs, depending on the weight of the child; improvement of therapeutic and rehabilitation measures in newborns with low weight; algorithms for the treatment of toxic shock in young children; functional disorders of the cardiovascular system in newborns; micronutrient disorders in children with prolonged diarrhea.

Department assistants participate in morning medical conferences, supervise patients in the departments of allergology and pulmonology, physiology and pathology of newborns, render emergency medical aid in all regions of Turkmenistan. In addition, they review case histories and participate during their discussions. Thanks to telemedicine the workers of the department,, conduct consultative work with seriously ill children.
