The Children Diseases Department of the Medical Faculty was established in 1932, and with the establishment of the Pediatrics Faculty in 1972 the Children Diseases Department was organized, later renamed into the of Facultative Pediatrics Department. The clinical bases are the Ashgabat Children's Hospital and the Rheumatology Department of the Cardiology Scientific and Clinical Centre, the Scientific Clinical Centre for Maternal and Child’s Health Protection, the Educational Scientific Centre for Maternal and Child’s Health Protection of Myrat Garryyev Turkmen State Medical University.
Teaching is conducted in two disciplines: Facultative Pediatrics and Pediatrics. In accordance with international experience, the requirements of the time and national traditions, the department widely uses world achievements, high technologies, innovative and digital learning methods. Training is conducted in Turkmen and English. Postgraduate education at the department includes clinical internship, full-time postgraduate studies, doctoral studies.
The staff of the department has published a textbook "Children Diseases" in the Turkmen language; prepared 2 textbooks: "Heart Diseases in Children", "Breastfeeding" and over 100 teaching aids, test collections of students' knowledge control, and conduct multimedia presentations of lecture material. The research work of the department is carried out in the following areas: features of the clinic, diagnosis and treatment of non-rheumatic myocarditis in children, clinical and immunological characteristics of rheumatoid arthritis in children; improvement of the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory pathology in frequently ill children; clinical and hematological features of various forms of hemorrhagic vasculitis in children depending on age; clinical and hematological features of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in children.
Reports prepared by the staff of the department are presented at the conferences and symposiums and scientific works are published in foreign countries, periodical editions in Turkmenistan collections of the scientific works of the public of periodic scientific practical conferences. The teachers of the department carry out a sanitary-educational work among the population, propagandasing a healthy lifestyle, appear on radio and television and on the pages of newspapers and magazines.
