Sport Medicine Faculty of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University was established in 2011 to train qualified sports doctors for sports complexes and recreation institutions of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy. Term of study – 6 years.

Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department is a main profile department of the faculty. The students of the Sports Medicine Faculty undergo training and work practice in the medical and prophylactic centres, hospitals and sportы complexes of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy.

Under the supervision of the professional and teaching staff, the students of the faculty deeply study the most important issues of the morphofunctional peculiarities of sportsmen’s organism, medical provision of the recreation trainings, causes of diseases of the students, their treatment, prophylaxis, main means used to improve the sportsmen’s rehabilitation after physical activity, peculiarities of the medical and pedagogical investigations in different weather and climatic conditions. At different departments students are engaged in the research work. Students regularly present their works at the scientific and practical conferences. Best works are recommended for participating in the competitions held by the Central Committee of Magtymguly Youth Organisation among young scientists where they take prize-winning places.

The teachers of the departments carry out tutorial and supervising work with the students of the Sports Medicine Faculty and actively participate in the cultural and mass events and celebrations dedicated to the national holidays. Besides, students participate in the international sport events as volunteers.

The graduates of the Sports Medicine Faculty are given the specialty of a sports doctor and are sent to work in in sports schools under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan.
