The Department takes its beginning in 1943 as “A course of physical therapy and medical control”. In 2011 on the occasion of the opening of the faculty of sports medicine it was created the department of physical therapy and health restoration and the department of sports medicine, where are organized advanced training courses for doctors in specialties of “Physical therapy and medical control”, “Physiotherapy and balneology” and “Sports medicine”. In 2019 two departments are consolidated by the general name. At present time it is located on the “Berzengi” resort’s basis and the sports complex of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan.

 

The following subjects are taught at the Department: “Education physical therapy and medical supervision”, “Physiotherapy and balneology”, “Therapy and health massage”, “Shiatsu massage”, “Sports massage”, “Sports medicine”, “Sports morphology”, “Children’s sports medicine”, “Yoga therapy”, “Ayurveda therapy”, “Basis of Chinese medicine”, “Introduction to the specialty sports medicine”.

 

Educational and methodical work of the Department: a qualification description was compiled for the specialties: “Doctor of education physical therapy”, “Doctor of physical therapy”, “Resort doctor”, “Sports doctor”. The Department has published three textbooks: “Education physical therapy and medical supervision”, “General physical therapy”, “Sports medicine and 1 methodological manual”, “Basis of Chinese medicine”. To the all taught subjects prepared teaching materials, test control questions and visual aids (tables, figures, photos, albums, slides, CD with lecture material for interactive presentations, microfilms).

 

The main directions of the research works of the department are: study of the influence of education physical therapy, natural and artificial physical factors on the human body with various diseases; study of the morphological and functional characteristics of sportsmen and the development of scientific methods of sports selection. Research results are published in journals, in the materials of scientific and practical conferences are reported at conferences of various levels. The staff of the department published more over 200 scientific papers. Teachers conduct educational work among the students as well as the teachers are active educational and methodological consultants in resumption and sports medicine and consultants of the “Saglyk” magazine.
