MAIN DIRECTIONS OF SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY IN THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan is the only higher educational establishment in the Independent and Neutral Turkmenistan training highly professional specialists in all medical spheres for the system of health and medical industry and it is considered a scientific centre for developing tasks connected with the protection of people’s health, reduction of morbidity level and prophylactics of diseases, prolongation of people’s life, developing scientific principles of preparing new dosage forms, rational and purposeful use of local natural raw materials.
Within the framework of these activities, such important problems of health care as peculiarities of clinical course of various diseases in the hot and dry climate of Turkmenistan, improvement of methods of their diagnosis and treatment, prophylactics of diseases and their early detection, all-round study of the medicinal plants of our country and their use in disease treatment, Improvement of the efficiency of the treatment of children diseases and gynecological disorders; detection of the influence of cardio-vascular diseases on various system of the organism, introduction the principles of a healthy lifestyle among the population are being solved and propaganda of the study of the Turkmen doctors-healers such as Abu Ali Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Seyyd Gurgenly, Muhammed Gaymaz the Turkmen and other scientists is being carried out. To plan, regulate, combine scientific and research work as well as to control their fulfillment, an Academic Council is working at the University. It consists of 7 main committees which control a scientific and research work at the University. This is scientific fundamentals of surgery and internal diseases, scientific fundamentals of maternal and children diseases, scientific fundamentals of general physiology and human pathology, scientific fundamentals of stomatology, hygiene, epidemiology and infectious disease, scientific fundamentals of preparation of new medicinal agents, their standartisation and investigation methods.
At present, seven research works are being carried at the University approved by the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and Academic Council of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan in the following priority directions of science:
1. Research work of the Department of Hospital Surgery with course in cardiovascular surgery “Improve Hemodialysis in patients with end-stage renal disease”;
2. Research work of the Pharmacy Department “Study of the plant Artemisia annua L. as a source of medicine for the flora of Turkmenistan”;
3. Research work of the Faculty Therapy Department “The importance of a combination of risk factors in the course of arterial hypertension”.
4. Research work of the Educational and Scientific Center of Mother and Child Health Care “Improving methods of pan relief after Caesarean section and gynecological operations”;
5. Research work of the Scientific and Clinical Center of Eye Diseases “The effectiveness of innovative laser methods for the treatment of glaucoma”;
6. Research work of the Department of children’s surgery “Efficiency of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of chemical burns of the esophagus in children”;
7. Research work of the Department of Medical Chemistry “Features of the chemical composition of kidney and gallstones formed in the human body”.
Besides, there is a postgraduate department within the structure of the Medical University with a course in 31 specialties and an institution of doctoral candidacy in 20 specialties. Dissertation works are directed to the improvement of the methods of prophylactics of diseases, their diagnosis and treatment at the early stage by means of new innovation methods. The work being carried out on the basis of the state programmes is being carried out in the medical institutions supplied with advanced technologies.
Candidates for degrees carry out research work in the International Educational-Scientific Centre on the basis of the signed agreements. Dissertations are dedicated to the topical problems of noninfectious diseases, maternal and child health protection, stomatology, ophthalmology, balneology and sport medicine.
The results of the research works are published in scientific journals in our country and abroad, the authors present them at the scientific conferences held in the country and at the international level and they are introduced into medical practice.
