The Normal Physiology Department was established in 1934, since the establishment of the department, the staff of the department carries out a great study and research work.

The students of all faculties study general and private physiology at the department. The lectures are conducted withed using of interactive methods of teaching in special equipped laboratories and operation rooms. The staff of the department holds teleconferences together with other departments and higher educational institutions.

Scientific researches include the problem of electrophysiology, influence of microelements on the human organism, physiological peculiarities of the organism in the hot climate. By the results of the research over 350 scientific works and 3 monographs have been published, 3 theses for a Doctor’s degree and 18 theses for сandidate degree have been defended.

Recently, a complex study of the immunological aspects of the body's adaptation to arid conditions in Turkmenistan has been the main focus of the scientific activity of the department. Research on this topic includes the peculiarities of the functioning of the organism of the native people of Turkmenistan and the influence of changing climatic conditions on them.

The department has a scientific group where students additionally carry out investigations, learn to work with scientific literature, use an electronic library and the Internet. The results of scientific works are presentations at the interuniversity conferences and participation in the competitions of young scientists.
