The Department of skin and venereal diseases was created in 1932 on the basis of the Turkmen state medical Institute and the Turkmen research Institute of skin diseases. Clinical base of the department is the Central Dermatic venerologic Hospital (CDVH) of the Center for Infectious Diseases were opened, which became the clinical base of the Department of Skin and venereal diseases.
At present time all study rooms are equipped with computers and multimedia equipment, which helps to conduct classes at a high modern level. For a comprehensive study of sections of the disciplines are widely used their own large clinical photo material of the department, modern foreign scientific and educational materials, as well as information from the Internet. For each topic studied, numerous visual aids are used, which reflect photographs of all clinical varieties of the disease, atypical clinical forms, all types of dermatosis are used at the lecture and practical lessons. Besides itin practical classes, students supervise patients in all clinical departments of CDVH, therefore, such a construction of classes allows not only to fully master the topic, but also the corresponding practical skills.
At the Department of skin and venereal diseases, the 4th year students all eight faculties are trained according to the curricula where involved specific of teaching and mastering dermatic venerology as well as the features of the clinical course of skin diseases in the hot climate of Turkmenistan. Throughout the year, teaching aids for all topics studied are regularly updated. In addition, for students studying in English, there is an extensive material on dermatovenereology in the taught language.
In 2010, the department staff released a textbook “Skin and venereal diseases” illustrated with color photographs..
The opening of the faculty of postgraduate education of doctors at Myrat Garryyev SMUT created all the conditions for the training and professional development of dermatovenerologist doctors. At the department of skin and venereal diseases, on the cycle of postgraduate education of doctors, taking into account the peculiarities of theoretical and practical training, dermatovenerologists, family doctors, military doctors are trained. An integrated program has been prepared for obstetricians and gynecologists, phthisiologists, urologists, pediatricians, and infectious diseases specialists for short-term development of the most urgent problems of dermatovenerology.
The main scientific directions of the staff of the department are included the study of regional pathology - the problem of skin leishmaniasis, the study of chronic allergic diseases and methods of their treatment using medicinal plants of Turkmenistan, as well as the study of the course of dermatosis associated with the problem of the Aral sea.
Students and students of postgraduate education, in addition to teaching advanced treatment methods, also learn modern methods of physiotherapy and balneological treatment.
The department has a student research group. Students who are interested in studying skin and venereal diseases participate in this circle. Results of the their join works with the teachers are are involved in the scientific –practical conferences and seminars.
