Medical-Prophylactic Faculty of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan was established in 1990. The task was set before the faculty: to train specialists with the qualification of doctor for practical prophylactic service of Turkmenistan.

Future epidemiologists and hygienists are trained at four departments of the University: Medical Ecology and Hygiene; Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology, Nutrition Hygiene.

Training at the faculty in the specialty “medical-prophylactic business” is carried out in accordance with the state educational standard. The term of study at the faculty is 6 years. The main direction of activity of the graduates is the support of a high level of the primary prophylactic aid to the population. Over 400 students study at the faculty.

The main clinical base of the faculty is the Directorate of the Infectious Diseases Centre supplied with modern clinical and diagnostic equipment. Training of the specialists for a practical health care is carried out in all directions of modern hygiene, epidemiology and ecology. The faculty is carrying out an intensive scientific and research activity in all directions of the development of modern science, including biotechnology. The students willing to learn how to carry out a research work can attend scientific groups under the departments of the faculty.
