The department was established on September 1, 2019 on the base of the Centre for Public Health and Nutrition of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.

Practical and lecture lessons are conducted with the students of the Medical and Preventive, Medical, and Pediatrics Faculties and the Sports Medicine Faculty in the following subjects: nutrition hygiene and dietology. In addition, classes are conducted at the department for students of the postgraduate training and further training course for doctors and interns. Classrooms and a lecture hall are supplied with multimedia equipment.

 

At the Centre for Public Health and Nutrition, students can visit laboratories are supplied with all the necessary equipment, reagents for determining the quality of food products. There,  there is an opportunity to study food products by molecular genetic and enzyme immunoassay methods, to conduct bacteriological and physic-chemical studies of food products, etc.

 

The leading research direction of the department is carried out on the topic: “The prevalence of metabolic syndrome among students of a medical university” and is carried out jointly with the staff of the Hospital with Physiology Scientific Clinical Centre.

 

The teachers of the department have published 7 teaching aids, 9 scientific articles and 17 theses. The fund of the department has materials of lectures and practical lessons in the form of educational-methodical manuals, albums, collections of test control on all subjects in visual and electronic form (tables, presentations, videotapes, etc.). All the necessary materials are on the university portal, which students can use at any convenient time.

 

Students participate in the research work of the department in accordance with the curriculum, present their reports at the conferences and in the competitions of young scientists.

The teachers of the department are actively engaged in the educational work in the media, participate in the public life of the university and the country as a whole.
