The Obstetrics and Gynecology of Postgraduate Training Department was established in 1963 and it has a rich history and traditions. The clinical bases of the department are the Hospital with the Physiology Scientific and Clinical Centre and the Scientific and Clinical Centre for Maternal and Child’s Health Protection.

 

Senior students of almost all faculties study Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatric and Sports Gynecology.

 

Training of obstetrician-gynecologists of the faculty of postgraduate and further training of doctors is carried out in three main directions: attestation cycles, primary specialization, thematic improvement. For thematic cycles, such programmes as endoscopic methods of diagnosis and treatment, the fundamentals of gynecological and obstetric endocrinology with issues of in vitro fertilization, emergency obstetric aid, the importance of ultrasound diagnostics in obstetrics have been developed. In the discipline "Obstetrics and Gynecology" practical classes are conducted with family doctors-interns.

 

The staff of the department has published textbooks: "Obstetrics", "Gynecology ", "Gynecology of Children and Adolescents"; a teaching manual “Fundamentals of Step-by-Step Perinatal Aid” has been prepared for publication. In addition, recently, over 90 teaching and methodological manuals have been written on topical issues of obstetrics and gynecology. Curricula and work plans for all disciplines have been developed for students of all courses and faculties studying at the department, postgraduate doctors, interns - obstetrician-gynecologists, family interns, interns - pediatric gynecologists.

 

The leading scientific directions of the department are the following: "Peculiarities of pregnancy and childbirth in women with hypertensive disorders", "Phetoplacental insufficiency and its peculiarities in women with gestational diabetes", "Prophylaxis of obstetric bleeding", "The role of magnesium sulfate in the treatment of hypertensive disorders of pregnant women", "Peculiarities of pregnancy and childbirth management in women with breech presentation of the fetus in the light of the "Safe Motherhood" Programme, "Peculiarities of pregnancy and childbirth management in women with pyelonephritis and asymptomatic bacteriuria", etc.

 

There is a scientific group at the department. Initiative students are involved in scientific work on the following topics: "Pelvic presentation of the fetus", "Basic principles of "Safe Motherhood", "Improvement of methods of the treatment of hypertensive disorders in pregnant women", "Indications for conservative myomectomy", "Perinatal infections", "Caesarean section in modern obstetrics”, “The importance of medicinal plants of Turkmenistan in obstetrics and gynecology”, “Laparoscopic operations in gynecology” and a number of others. Research results are published in conference collections and submitted for participation in competitions.

 

The techers of the department daily participate in morning medical conferences, clinical rounds; they manage patients, take part in solving complex clinical situations, review medical records, conduct duty on the line of air ambulance, and also take part in scientific and practical conferences.
