History of the department begins from the date of foundation of the Infectious diseases department in 1932, where as the subject included in the curriculum “Basis of epidemiology”.
In 1935 at the department was formed the course of epidemiology.
In 1985 it is opened independent department of Epidemiology. Scientific and research work of the department was directed to the study of the clinical and epidemiological features of the various variants of viral hepatitis.
In 1989 with union of the department Epidemiology and Infectious diseases are formed the department of Infectious diseases epidemiology.
From August 2021 begins the new stage of organization of the academic process and the scientific activity of the independent department of Epidemiology.
Educational and methodological work of the department is carried out with the 4th year students of the pediatric and stomatology faculties, in the 5th year general medicine faculty, and also in the 5th -6th year faculties of military medicine, rehabilitation and sports medicine, and medical –prophylactic. At the department to improve the qualification the specialists in the framework of the postgraduate education on course of epidemiology, also conducts acceptance on objective teaching on traineeship and postgraduate studies programs in epidemiology direction.
Staff of the department is prepared to the publication the textbook “General epidemiology”. The basic methodological material of the department is more than 300 textbooks.
Staff of the department immediate participate in the preparation of the official documents of the Ministry of health and medical industry of Turkmenistan on prophylactic infectious diseases and organization anti-epidemic works. All lectures and practical lessons are presented in electronic form, and also the departmental visual aids are presented in the form of albums, tables, and videos. Prepared tests and study – methodical manuals on each theme. Lecture halls, study-practical rooms provided interactive, multimedia facilities, computer and other study – technical means, according to the up-to-date requirements of the educational system.
Getting knowledge, the students consolidate in the scientific- clinical subdivisions of the university and on the occupational practice in the base institutions of the health care.
The department has prepared "Qualification characteristics" for the specialties: epidemiology, parasitology, disinfectology. During the academic year, teachers of the department conduct open classes and seminars for young teachers, graduate students, clinical residents and young doctors.
Main direction of the scientific –research work of the department “Epidemiological features and improvement measures of prophylactic of acute respiratory diseases”
Staff of the department systematically participate in the anti-epidemic works in all the parts of the country and render the emergency consultative aid, and also methodical help in prophylactic of infectious diseases by the epidemiologist of the country.
The department has a scientific circle engaged the advanced students of the general medicine, pediatric, medical – prophylactic and other faculties for the work in the scientific-research work of the students (SRWS).Participants of the circle speak at the scientific conference and prepare different publications and presentations.
Essential part of the training process of the specialists are the educational work. Special attention is paid to the spiritual – moral and esthetic upbringing of the students. The work is made in accordance with educational work plan of the university and directed on the training high qualified, all-round educated specialist- patriots of our country.
