The Hospital Therapy Department was established in 1935, its educational bases today are S.A. Niyazov Medical Consultative Centre of Turkmenistan and the Hospital with Cardiology Scientific Clinical Centre.
The department conducts lessons in Internal and Occupational Diseases, Sports Cardiology, Hospital Therapy, Chinese Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology, and Clinical Physiology with the students from almost all faculties. Doctors are specialize and further trained in the following disciplines: "The most important problems of internal diseases", "Clinical pharmacology". Postgraduate education at the department includes clinical residency, postgraduate and doctoral studies.
The staff of the department have developed training manuals: "Internal Diseases", "Clinical Pharmacology", "Differential Diagnosis of Internal Diseases", over 300 teaching and methodological recommendations. Practical and lecture classes are conducted by the method of interactive learning.
Scientific activities are carried out in the main directions of internal diseases: "Psychosomatic state of patients with certain diseases of the cardiovascular system and its drug correction"; clinical pharmacology: "Study of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medicinal plants of Turkmenistan". About 3,000 scientific theses, over 2,000 scientific articles, 15 monographs have been published. Students develop research skills in student groups.
The medical and diagnostic work of the department includes clinical examinations and management of patients, the provision of practical assistance to the doctors in all regions of Turkmenistan. Medical bases are supplied with modern medical equipment, which helps students to improve their knowledge in diagnosing diseases.
