The Infectious Diseases Department was established in 1932. At present, it is located at the base of the Centre for the Infectious Diseases Treatment and Prophylaxis of the Directorate of Centers for Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. Lecture, educational and practical classrooms are provided with interactive, multimedia equipment, computers and other educational and technical facilities that meet the requirements of the modern education system. The department has a conference room.

 

Educational and methodological work of the department is carried out with the students of the Medical, Pediatrics, Medical-Prophylactic and Stomatology Faculties, with family doctors-interns and postgraduate students in the following disciplines: "Infectious Diseases", "Epidemiology".

 

The teachers of the department have published the textbook "Infectious Diseases", and a textbook on epidemiology is being prepared for publication. The basic methodological material is over 300 manuals. The teachers are directly involved in the development of the programme and orders of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan on infectious diseases.

 

All lectures and practical exercises are presented in electronic form, the department visual aids - in the form of albums, tables, videos. Tests and teaching aids for each topic are prepared. The staff of the department prepared "Qualification Characteristics" in the specialties: infectious diseases, epidemiology, parasitology, bacteriology, entomology. During the academic year, the teachers of the department conduct open classes, seminars for young teachers, undergraduate students, clinical residents and young doctors.

 

 "Studying the features of the course of viral hepatitis in Turkmenistan" is the main direction of the research work of the department. As a result of many- years activity, 2 doctoral and 22 candidate theses were defended, 12 monographs and over 1,000 scientific articles were published.

 

The teachers of the department provide urgent consultative, as well as methodological assistance in the prevention of infectious diseases for the country's infectious disease specialists.

 

At the department there is a group "Young infectious disease specialist", where students get acquainted with the basics of conducting research work.
