The department was established in 1932. Today, the students of all faculties study Medical Ecology, General hygiene and Nutrition Hygiene, Communal and Occupational Hygiene, Hygiene of Children and Adolescents, General Hygiene in Chinese Medicine, Hospital Hygiene and Hygiene of Sports Facilities at their lectures and practical lessons. In addition, the department conducts classes for the students of the postgraduate and further training course of doctors and interns.

 

The fund of the department has materials for classes in the form of albums and in electronic form, collections of test control in all subjects, as well as visual material (tables, presentations, videos, dummies, etc.).

 

Classrooms, classrooms for practical classes,  and a lecture hall are supplied with multimedia equipment. The nutrition laboratory is equipped with all the necessary reagents for determining the quality of food products, which contributes to the consolidation of theoretical knowledge among students. For holding cathedral meetings and for working with teaching aids, an educational and methodical room functions at the department.

The staff of the department has published over 150 teaching aids, 6 monographs, 630 scientific articles, 6 textbooks are being prepared for publication, 2 books of which  have been published.

 

“Hygienic assessment of the effect of phytoncides on the health of women working in the Bahar garment production workshops”, “Studying the physiological characteristics of the body and identifying capable groups of athletes in the conditions of Turkmenistan from a scientific point of view”, “Evaluation of the frequency of detection of metabolic syndrome among young people” are themes of scientific research of the department.

Since the establishment of the department, 5 doctoral and 16 candidate theses have been defended, certificates for 5 rationalization proposals have been received.
