"Modern approach to the treatment of myopia"

On April 23-24, 2024, the Scientific-Clinical Eye Diseases Center of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan held an international scientific-practical conference of ophthalmologists "Health - the golden key to well-being and prosperity" and a seminar for young ophthalmologists "Modern approach to the treatment of myopia".

The scientific forums were organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, the Ophthalmology Committee of the Public Organization of Doctors of Turkmenistan, the Scientific-Clinical Center of Eye Diseases of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan. Ophthalmologists from all provinces, Ashgabat and Arkadag cities, as well as a specially invited group of specialists from the Russian Federation participated:

1. Takhchidi Hristo Periklovich, Vice-Rector for Medical Studies and Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Russian National Medical Research University. N.P. Pirogova, Director of the Ophthalmology Research Center, a Federal State Autonomous Higher Educational Institution named after the Russian National Research Medical University. N.I. Pirogova, head of the ophthalmology department of the National Medical Research Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, chief ophthalmologist of the Federal Agency for Medicine and Biology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation;

2. Myagkov Alexander Vladimirovich, Director of the National Myopia Institute, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor;

3. Zenkova Elena Sergeevna, researcher at the Department of Correction of Refractive Errors of the National Myopia Institute;

4. Myagkova Olga Alekseevna, researcher at the Department of Clinical Ophthalmology of the National Myopia Institute.

The most important problems of ophthalmology were discussed: vitreoretinal pathology and innovative surgeries for macular ruptures using autoplasm; modern approaches to the correction of refractive disorders, methods of myopia control, tactics of management of patients with progressive myopia; laser treatment of diabetic retinopathy, diagnosis and treatment of ischemic conditions of the posterior segment of the eye, refractive surgery for astigmatism, ophthalmic oncopathology in children

The videos were very descriptive and presented modern methods of vitreoretinal surgery for a variety of complex pathologies in the posterior segment of the eye. Foreign colleagues consulted patients with various pathologies of the organ of vision and gave appropriate recommendations; they trained young ophthalmologists in new methods for correcting refractive errors and interpreting the results of optical coherence tomography.
