International Scientific and Practical Conference “Actual Problems of Ophthalmology” held at the Scientific and Clinical Center of Eye Diseases of Myrat Garryev State Medical University of Turkmenistan.

The conference was organized by the Ophthalmological Committee of the Public Organization of Doctors of Turkmenistan, the Scientific and Clinical Center and the Department of Eye Diseases of  Myrat Garryev State Medical University of Turkmenistan. It was attended by ophthalmologists from all regions and the city of Ashgabat, as well as an ophthalmologist specially invited from Turkey, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Ihsan Yilmaz.

The most important problems of ophthalmology were discussed at the scientific forum: modern methods of correction of refractive errors, issues of early diagnosis and rehabilitation of diabetic retinopathy, screening and monitoring of retinopathy of prematurity, varieties of blepharoplasty interventions in ophthalmogerontology and oncological diseases of the eyelids were touched upon.

In his speech, professor Ihsan Yilmaz familiarized the participants with the work of the ophthalmological department of the “LIV Hospital” (Istanbul), presented an overview of modern intraocular lenses used for the surgical treatment of cataracts, myopia, astigmatism. The videos were very revealing, presenting modern methods of vitreoretinal surgery for various complex pathologies of the posterior segment of the eye. After the theoretical part of the conference, a foreign colleague, in the presence of young ophthalmologists, consulted patients with various pathologies of the organ of vision and made appropriate recommendations.

In the second part of the conference program, for young ophthalmologists they were given the opportunity to observe in an "online" format the implementation of laser operations that correct various refractive disorders (myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism) on the newest excimer laser device "Schwind Amaris – 750S".

A meeting was also held with the chief specialists of the regions and the city of Ashgabat, where the pressing problems of ophthalmology and training of qualified personnel were discussed following the results of the Technical Briefing of the WHO Regional Office for Europe (March 2023), an analysis of the ophthalmological service of Turkmenistan over the past 5 years was carried out.
